FAQ
Do I need a guarantor?
We need details for a guarantor for every lease, even if you intend to pay in 1 instalment. This is because they will take responsibility for any unpaid arrears or damage during your tenancy period.Who can be my guarantor?
Your guarantor can be anyone not currently in full time education. They do not need to be a UK resident either - most residents use a parent, guardian or family member. However, please note you can NOT act as your own guarantor. When will I have to make my payments?
You can choose to pay for your lease in 1, 2 or 4 instalments. The due dates for these instalment plans will be as follows: 1 payment, due: 31/07/2019 | 2 payments, due: 31/07/2019 & 13/01/2020 | 4 payments, due: 31/07/2019, 09/10/2019, 13/01/2020 & 06/04/2020Do you offer any discounts?
If you pay in 1 instalment, your total amount payable will be 2% cheaper than if you chose to pay in 2 instalments. If you pay in 4 instalments, your total amount payable will be 2% more expensive than if you chose to pay in 2 instalments. How can I make a payment?
You can make a payment using a credit or debit card, either on the internet or over the phone. Please note, we do not accept American Express and there is a 2.5% charge on credit card payments. You can make a payment through bank transfer via a company called Pay To Study. Can I pay my holding fee over the phone?
If you’re experiencing problems booking online, or would prefer to speak to the Chapter Bookings team directly, don’t hesitate to give us a call. You can contact us on +44 207 293 0000 between 9:30am-6pm GMT, Monday through Saturday. We have English and Chinese speaking advisors ready to answer any questions you have, as well as taking card payments over the phone. What’s included in the price?
All your bills – water, electric, gas, internet, gym and use of all the social spaces – are included in the price. There are no hidden charges, what you see on your contract is what you pay (besides any damage to the room or fines you incur).Am I allowed to have guests to stay?
You are welcome to have guests through the daytime, and an overnight guest for a fair and reasonable length, to be decided by the team on site. Your guests will need to check in with the reception team, and you will be responsible for them throughout their stay. Please note, you will need written consent from management if you overnight guest is under 18 years of age.Is there an age limit for booking accommodation with Chapter?
All Chapter residents need to be over 18 from the time of moving in. This is due to the legally binding tenancy agreement that each resident is required to sign before arrival. We have no upper age limits on our accommodation, so long as the resident is in full time education for the duration of their stay. How secure is the accommodation?
We have CCTV in and around each property, an electronic key fob entry system for the main entrance, common areas, each flat and bedroom. There is also staff on site 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Will I need to pay council tax?
In the UK, students are exempt from paying council tax – you won’t need to pay this, but if the council do mistakenly bill you, you will need to provide details to prove that you are in full time education.Do I need a TV Licence?
If you bring your own TV, or want to watch or record programmes as they are shown live (including on mobile phones, tablets or computers), you will need to apply and pay for a TV License. Any TV’s provided by Chapter, either in a shared living space or communal area will have a TV License sorted. What if something in my flat breaks?
If you’re having any problems with your room, a shared living space, or one of the communal areas, you have two options. You can log the issue using the Active Building resident portal, providing details so our maintenance team can get this sorted for you as soon as possible. Alternatively, you can come down to your reception and talk to a member of staff so we can log it on your behalf. Can I have pets?
Unfortunately, you are not allowed to keep any pets in your room or any shared living spaces. What happens if I don’t get on with my new flat mates?
We want your university experience to be as positive as possible – if you are having any issues with flat mates, please let us know. We will do our best to help resolve any problems you might be having. Can I receive post and parcels?
Your flat has its own lockable mailbox, which you will receive a key to when you check in. If any larger packages, or anything that requires a signature arrives for you, we’ll hold onto it and let you know so you can come and collect it. For security reasons, you will need to provide photo ID and give a signature to confirm collection. Post will not be given out to other residents on your behalf without written authorisation. Can I live with my friends?
We are more than happy to accommodate groups as well as individuals. Let us know who you’re planning to live with, and we’ll do our best to accommodate you in the same flat.Am I allowed to live with a partner or friend? How much will it cost?
Two people can share some of the bigger studios at our properties, which will add an additional £100 per week to the rent. Please contact us directly if this is something you’d like to organise this. Please note, both inhabitants need to be full time students, studying at least 20 hours per week. What appliances and furniture are included in my room?
All rooms come with a bed, desk and chair. Extras such as kettles, toasters and lamps vary property to property, room to room. Please check the room details on the website or contact the relevant property directly to find out what will be included in the room you have booked.I’m not a student. Am I allowed to stay in a Chapter property?
Unfortunately, we are only able to offer accommodation to people in full time education, studying a minimum of 20 hours per week. We can also accommodate students on internships and sandwich courses, on the provision that the placement is directly related to your course of study, and you will be returning to full time study when it finishes. If you are not sure whether you qualify, please contact the sales team.Virtual Tour
