The Chapter Student Guide

London South Bank

You’ve got your university place and have decided that you want to further your education by studying at a university in London. What next?

Planning a move to a new city can be a daunting experience, we recommend starting the process by picking which area of London works best for you.

What’s great about London’s South Bank area?

The South Bank is easily accessible via various train and underground stations and is the perfect location to base yourself ready to experience all that London has to offer.

You have London Bridge station which provides both rail and underground services and also Southwark and Borough underground stations within a short walk of each other. Not to mention numerous bus routes that weave their way through the area daily.

The Thames Riverbank is a short walk away from all three stations and is an area that has been a centre of art and entertainment for hundreds of years.

You’ll find The Southbank Centre which holds world-famous exhibitions, festivals, gigs, talks, performances and debates. You also have The National Theatre, the British Film Institute and the Shakespeare's Globe not to mention the tree-lined riverside walkway lined with restaurants and historic pubs, regular stages, frequent fairs and events throughout the year. You could spend a Saturday visiting the Sea Life London Aquarium, or spend your evenings and weekends walking along the riverbank taking in the sights of the London Eye, Big Ben and St Paul’s Cathedral.

In winter, charming Christmas markets take over the South Bank and line the River Thames, whilst festivals are held all year round showcasing musical, theatrical and comedic talents from all over the globe.

It is also a popular location for quirky pop-ups and one-off arts and crafts stalls, so you can be sure that there is always something exciting going on close by.
