A night out in London - Our top tips

Published: 31 May 18

Nights out in London don’t always have to include getting dressed to the nines and hitting the clubs until 4am. We’ve pooled together a few ideas for a more laid-back night out in the capital, including some classic options and some we bet you’d never thought of.

Visit a museum after hours

Some of London’s most famous museums hold monthly ‘late events’, giving you after-hours access to sample the space in a different way. These events might include special exhibitions that aren’t available during the day, performances and talks from experts, all with a drink in hand. This is an interesting way of ticking off some of London’s famous attractions from your list.

See a West End show

London’s West End is famous for its theatre shows, so make the most of it whilst you’re staying in the capital. There are countless shows on, with themes ranging from comedy to horror, so you’re bound to find something that tickles your fancy.

Some of the more iconic productions can be expensive, but if you keep an eye out, there’s often promotions and discounts where you can nab tickets for a fraction of the price on the day of the production. Take a gamble one evening and see if you can get some cheap tickets for your play of choice.

Play some games

As fun as a games night in can be, why not have a games night out? There are spots all over London that combine games with food, drinks and all sorts of night time activities. Win a game of musical bingo, or play some shuffleboard with all your food and drink served to your lane. You’ll find dedicated ping pong bars (which can be turned into beer pong), interactive darts experiences, and Ballie Ballerson - a bar filled with thousands of balls for you to dive into.

Go to a comedy club

Everyone enjoys a good laugh. London is riddled with comedy clubs, big and small, so you’ll find something for whatever you’re in the mood for. And if your budget can't stretch to a huge comedian on an arena tour, there are a lot of free comedy events with up and coming comedians, so this one can be a cheap night out if needs be.

Break out of an escape room

Reckon you and your friends could riddle your way out of a locked room in under an hour? Escape rooms are the perfect bonding activity, where you can show off your puzzle skills in a challenging immersive experience. With themes ranging from World War II to wizardry, you certainly won’t struggle in finding a game that suits you and your friends on an evening in London.

Go to the cinema

You can never go wrong with a good old film, a bucket of popcorn and a fizzy drink the size of your head. Whether it’s to see the latest blockbuster, or to watch a classic for the 10th time at an arthouse theatre, we've lost count of the number of cinemas you can go to in London. A large number of cinemas offer student discount, so don’t forget to take your student cards with you so you have extra money to spend on treats for the movie!
